Enhanced dynamo growth in nonhomogeneous conducting fluids

چکیده

We address magnetic-field generation by dynamo action in systems with inhomogeneous electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability. More specifically, we first show that the Taylor-Couette kinematic undergoes a drastic reduction of its stability threshold when (zero-mean) modulation fluid's or permeability is introduced. These results are obtained outside mean-field regime, for which this effect was initially proposed. Beyond illustrative example, extend duality argument put forward Favier Proctor (2013) to swapping distributions changing $u\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{-}u$ leaves unchanged. This allows one make connections between priori unrelated studies. Finally, discuss possibility observing such an both laboratory astrophysical settings.

Interfacial phase transitions in conducting fluids.

We present a review, largely based on recent experimental work of our group, on phase transitions at interfaces of fluid metals, alloys and ionic liquids. After a brief analysis of possible experimental errors and limitations of surface sensitive methods, we first deal with first-order wetting transitions at the liquid/vapour and liquid/wall interface in systems such as Ga-based alloys, K-KCl m...

Error estimates for semi-Galerkin approximations of nonhomogeneous incompressible fluids

We consider the spectral semi-Galerkin method applied to the nonhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations. Under certain conditions it is known that the approximate solutions constructed through this method converge to a global strong solution of these equations. Here, we derive an optimal uniform in time error estimate in the H norm for the velocity. We also derive an error estimate for the density ...

Error bounds for semi-Galerkin approximations of nonhomogeneous incompressible fluids

We consider spectral semi-Galerkin approximations for the strong solutions of the nonhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations. We derive an optimal uniform in time error bound in the H 1 norm for approximations of the velocity. We also derive an error estimate for approximations of the density in some spaces L r .

Stochastic Dynamics of Field Generation in Conducting Fluids

The large-scale magnetic Ðelds of stellar and galactic bodies are generally understood to be organized and ampliÐed by motions in the conducting Ñuid media of these bodies. This article examines a mechanism by which continual excitation of the conducting Ñuid by small-scale Ðelds results in production of large-scale Ðelds. The excitation of the induction equation by small-scale Ðelds is paramet...

Phenomenology of turbulent dynamo growth and saturation

With a non local shell model of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence we investigate numerically the turbulent dynamo action for low and high magnetic Prandtl numbers (Pm). The results obtained in the kinematic regime and along the way to dynamo saturation are understood in terms of a phenomenological approach based on the local (Pm ≪ 1) or non local (Pm ≫ 1) nature of the energy transfers. In both ca...
